Seize the Birthday: Use Your Scraps

Happy Thursday! It's time for a new Seize the Birthday challenge - do check back to my previous post to see if you were a winner of my mystery prize! Meanwhile, we are back with our newest challenge, Use Your Scraps. This was my challenge choice, and I ended up with three cards! My first:

For this card, I sorted through my cardstock scraps and came up with three scraps of coordinating blue cardstock. After cutting them into strips, I layered them diagonally with white. I had some precut blue daisies, but none of them looked quite right, so I turned to leftover blended panel scraps instead, and found this one that worked perfectly. A simple sentiment and some gems completed the card.

This card went so well, I decided to make another in green!

This time I was able to collect four cardstock greens that worked well together. The leaf collage is made from images already stamped and die cut - just waiting to be used! This time I used a grey card base - and the greens really bring out the green undertones of the cardstock.

But wait! I hadn't used any patterned paper scraps yet! A third card was needed:

These stamps were created by Seize the Birthday's very own Shirley! I've had them for a while now, and it was more than time they saw ink. The large body of the big bird seemed perfect for paper piecing! The little ones were a bit trickier. ;) One great thing about paper piecing - I didn't have to mask anything before I made the background panel. This isn't overtly birthday themed, but a birthday sentiment inside makes it one. ;)  I am going to add this card to Darnell's October NBUS challenge for my bird use. :D

If you make cards, it's possible you may have a scrap or two you have yet to use. :D Be sure to check the inventive ways the StB design team, and our current surprise party guest Angie, have used their scraps! Hope you will join us.

Wow, Lindsey. Great job in using your scraps. All three cards are wonderful. I have to say I am especially fond of the paper pieced bird card...I have those birds and haven't taken them out in a while. And, haven't paper pieced in a while also. So, overall, wonderful inspiration here! Also, eek...looks like I was the mystery prize winner too. So thanks for that.

Lindsey this was a fun challenge. Using up scraps to make a card is so gratifying. It was a great idea. I just so happens that I cleaned up my scraps recently so I had little to none to use. I really like your card all of them, you overachiever! Wait, Shirley makes stamps?

Look at you with a threefer post! First, that blue card is just lovely! Love the diagonal layout and that intricate did is so pretty! For the green card...the mix of fall leaves really made this entire card come together. I love green apparently as that is the biggest pile of scraps that I have. As for the birds by Shirley, Love the sky and grass and the paper pieced is so cute. This card looks like it was made by Shirley and that is a huge compliment! Well done my dear!

I completely agree - the cards with the diagonal stripes are awesome - I would say it calls for even more cards with a different color in each card! I love what you've created with them! And the birdie card is a cutie - glad you got to use those stamps at last!

What a feast for the eyes, Lindsey! Firstly, I love the monochrome of your first card, very stylish! On your second card the leaves and flowers really pop on the green strips. And the third card - my heart gave a little flip (always does when I see that people have used my stamps). I love the snazzy paper-pieced bird, and I’m glad you broke open the set 😍

Impressive use of your scraps, be they the solids of the first, the combination of solids and foliage images of the second, or the patterned papers of the third! I can't even imagine paper-piecing those little birds! Wait..I can't imagine paper-piecing anything! It's the lines...I'm either in or out! ACK! Anyway, you've elevated your bits-and-pieces wonderfully with this trio!
