Vintage Christmas

It's time for another challenge at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers

You likely thought Edna was a little old-fashioned already, but she is going full on VINTAGE for our latest challenge. I used it as an opportunity to get another Christmas card done:

I picked a trio of vintage ornaments and a sentiment from a pack of Kaisercraft die cuts. On a piece of coordinating cardstock, I stamped the musical background in Versamark and sponged the edges with distress ink. Then it was simply a matter of putting everything together on the card base! It went so smoothly, I put together a second one.

There may be more of these if I start running out of time as Christmas gets closer. ;) In the meantime, I'm linking up to this week's Simon Says Stamp's Anything Goes challenge.
Head over to the Snarky Sisters website to see lots more inspiration, including a fun card by this week's guest designer, Linda! And then I hope you will join us with a vintage creation of your own.

Supplies: Stampin' Up very vanilla, old olive & gumboil green cardstock, Hero Arts collage music background, Versamark & peeled paint distress inks, Kaisercraft Turtle Dove die cuts, My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Christmas enamel dots, glue dots

Happy, Happy, Happy!

Paper Smooches Sparks is having a sketch challenge this week:

It just so happened I needed a birthday card, and the sketch managed to work its way into my plans quite nicely:

I had started out thinking I would give my unicorn a rainbow mane, but then decided pink and purple would be fun together. I collected "happy" sentiments from two different sets for the sentiment square. I covered some cardstock with washi tape before die cutting the backing mat, and used two more strips of washi behind the unicorn. The mane, tail, hooves and horn are all generously coated with Wink of Stella glitter marker. This closeup maybe shows the shimmer a little better:

Finally, I added the purple sequins to help balance the design.
With less than a month before the big day, this my be the last non-Christmas card you'll see here for a while...

Supplies: Neenah solar white & Stamping' Up almost amethyst cardstock, Paper Smooches Spectrum, Birthday Buddies & Party Posse stamps, Versafine onyx black, Memento rosebud & Stamping' Up almost amethyst inks, Sharpies, Nellie's Multi-Frames square die, mega dot pink Trendy Tape, sequins, Wink of Stella clear glitter marker

Sending Thanks

Thanksgiving in Canada, of course, has come and gone; but not to the south of us! And since friendship knows no borders...

If this card looks familiar, I made a very similar card before Canadian Thanksgiving. My last one helped earn me a spot on the Naughty or Nice challenge team, so why not make an encore? ;) I added a pilgrim hat to my turkey this time -- more of an American symbol than a Canadian one.
I'm entering this into Simon Say's Stamp's current Wednesday challenge, Thanks/Thanksgiving. My goal is for this to be a busy week on the blog, so hope to see you here again soon!

Supplies: Stampin' Up kraft & Bazzill brown cardstock, My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Two Rosy patterned paper plus many scraps, Paper Smooches Jive Turkey stamps, Memories black & Colorbox espresso inks, Zing clear embossing powder, distress markers

Squirrel!

My friend and papercrafter extraordinaire Emily happens to like squirrels. So much in fact that she is currently hosting a Squirrelfest challenge on her blog! Since I have a squirrel stamp or two, how could I not play along? And since I'm also rather behind on my holiday cards, a squirrelly Christmas card it is:

I thought it would take me several attempts to sponge a northern lights background I would be happy with, but the one you see is my very first try! On the other hand, the squirrels? I had the hardest time getting them coloured to my satisfaction. On my second-last try, I wasn't paying enough attention and the boy squirrel decided to don a sweater that clashed with the green in the Aurora Borealis. Sheesh. (He and his skating partner will likely end up on a different card or maybe a tag.) The sentiment went on the inside; partly not to disturb the serene scene, and partly because I didn't want to risk ruining my sponged panel. ;)
My little skaters can also remind you that there are a few days left to play in the current Naughty or Nice challenge: Festive Furballs! Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Supplies: white and navy linen cardstock, Strathmore mixed media paper, Amuse Squirrel Capades stamp, Memento tuxedo black and peeled paint, milled lavender, tumbled glass, broken china faded jeans & chipped sapphire distress inks, watercolour pencils, pop-dot tape and squares

What Did You Say???

That's right! The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers is actually encouraging you to use profanity for our new challenge! It's our 21st offering: P is for Profanity (Swear if You Dare). Obviously our mascot Edna is too prim to swear (out loud at least). You may have noticed by my previous SoSS offerings that I do like to be subtle in my snark. So for me today, a card that is clean and simple and merely suggestive:

Some pictures are worth a thousand words; this merely needs one. ;) I could have made this a true one-layer card, but I liked the mix of fonts I came up with from my die cut scraps. And of course I had to use three different stamp sets for the simple stamping!
Admit it... haven't you just been looking for an excuse to bring truly colourful vocabulary to your card? :D My sisters in snark have outdone themselves as usual, so make sure to check the blog for lots more inspiration. We also have the talented Lauren with us as a guest designer! Now I'm thinking, hmm, maybe I should take a picture of the snow outside and use the same sentiment on a second card...

Supplies: white, orange, blue & yellow cardstock, Paper Smooches Free Spirits, Amber Ink Hope, Popcorn and Wine & Lawn Fawn freebie stamps, Versafine onyx black, & Memento rhubarb stalk & pear tart inks, assorted die cut letters

Naughty or Nice News!

I'm excited to announce I've joined the Naughty or Nice Challenges blog team!

If you haven't been introduced to this fun challenge blog yet, you're in for a treat. Every month we offer a theme and ask you to create a NAUGHTY or NICE card to fit. So without further ado, here's this month's challenge:

Holiday animals! Naughty or nice, the choice is up to you. Here's mine:

Not overtly naughty, but the expression on that penguin's face? Obviously plotting revenge on someone. After giving him a quick colouring, I thought about cutting him out, but that's hard to do while you're coughing and sneezing (grr), so a simple circle die cut and some coordinating papers had to suffice.
Make sure you check out the naughty and nice offerings of the rest of the talented team! And then I hope you'll join us with your own holiday animal creation -- you have until November 25th!

Supplies: white & Stamping' Up real red cardstock, Studio Calico Wonderland patterned paper, Unity {ippity} Pain and Pride stamps, Memento tuxedo black & Stamping' Up real red inks, Spectrum Noir markers, Spellbinders circle, My Favourite Things layered label & Paper Smooches Borders 1 dies, pop-dot tape

Thankful Snarky Stampers

The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers is back with a new challenge... our 20th already! Our new challenge is brought to you by the letter T -- Thanks (... for Nothing). As always, snark is welcome, but not required. We are looking for Thank You or Thanksgiving projects.
You might at first think that it would be difficult to combine thanks with snark... but several of the Sisters rose to the challenge. Here's mine:

It's quite ridiculous how long I've had this Queen of the Universe stamp without using her on a card. I thought she worked perfectly with my invented sentiment. I might even know a few people I could give this card to who would appreciate it!
Since the Unity blog has extended their Friday Friends with Flair into Saturday, I'm joining them with this card as well as this week's Simon Says Stamp's Anything Goes challenge.
Now it's your turn... be sure to check out the terrific inspiration by my sisters as well as this week's guest, Majo! Then we'd love to see how thankful you are.

Supplies: white & black cardstock, Echo Park Times & Seasons patterned paper, Unity Queen of the Universe & Bit of Burlap {ippity} stamps, Versafine onyx black & Versamagic Spanish olive inks, watercolour pencils, gold Smooch, Winsor & Newton iridescent medium, Lawn Fawn stitched journaling card die, pop-dot tape
