12 Kits of Occasions Guest Designer!

I'm honoured and excited to be joining some fabulous cardmakers at The 12 Kits of Occasions! My sweet friend Tracey is hosting this month, and asked a few lucky people to guest with her. The photo above shows the fun kit of goodies she sent out to everyone - the theme is "A New Year of Birthdays". In all these years of crafting, I've only bought card kits a couple of times - and never actually used them as a kit, instead mixing various components with other items from my stash. I had no idea how much fun it was to take the elements of a kit and see what I could come up with!
My first card is all kit apart from the card base:

This card highlights one of the patterned papers from Vicky Boutin's Let's Wander pad that Tracey included. No coincidence that the balloons she sent coordinate perfectly! I used some of the twine in the package for my balloon strings, then added the banner Happy Birthday sentiment.

My second card has a few blingy elements added to the supplies:

These die cut pinwheels from The Greetery are amazing! I picked two that coordinated with another paper from the kit, and layered the big Let's Party sentiment over top with some foam tape. For a little extra zip to the sentiment, I went over it with a Wink of Stella pen, for shimmer you can't see in photographs. ;) I also added a bit of holographic washi tape and some bling from my own supplies.

Next up is a two-for-one card!

Another kit element is this Big Birthday Wishes sentiment from My Favorite Things. I picked a polka dot stencil and mowed lawn distress ink to add a design to the entire panel. I used the outside of the panel to line up my letters on the patterned paper of the first card, then applied the panel itself to a white card base. Simple!

I was surprised that it took me until this, my fifth and final card, to do any colouring!

I coloured this image from MFT's All the Cupcakes thinking I would use it on another of the patterned papers Tracey included. Once I had it coloured though, I didn't really like how it disappeared on the papers, so reached deeeeep into my stash for this card base and the die cut vellum heart.

Five cards, and I still have lots of kit left to play with - thank you, Tracey, for designing such a fun kit with so many possibilities! If you visit The 12 Kits of Occasions site, you will find a list of everything included in this month's kit, and see the creative makes from the regular design team as well as Tracey's guests. Thanks for making it through this long post! ;)

Hi Lindsey, So glad to have you joining us. I love all your cards using Tracey's kit! The birthday balloons on that paper you used is like a puff of confetti going off at a real party! Great idea adding strings to the balloons too. I love the added shimmer on the Let's party card. Super cute and aren't those pinwheels fun! The polka dots on the BIG birthday cards are adorable and such a great idea. The last card with the pretty colored cupcake over the vellum heart is simply as sweet as can be! CAS and perfect!! Such great cards using Tracey's kit. So happy to have visited your awesome blog.

Lindsey, you knocked it out of the park. You are right it is fun sometimes to have a set selection of products to design with. It can be scary, but also quite liberating to see what you can do. Love your first card with the balloon strings tied so perfectly, the yellow and orange papers and pinwheels look amazing together, I am in LOVE with the polka dot cover panel--great pairing! As for your lone cupcake sometimes it just looks better solo without patterned paper to take away fro. The card! All well done and creative, so glad that you were my guest!!

Awesome cards Lindsey and so glad to have you joining us this month! It always amazes me how differently we see the elements of the kit and the cards we come up with, and after looking at yours I'm thinking "now why didn't I think of stenciling on the BIG Birthday Wishes"?!!! LOVE both your cards with those fun and bright polka dots!! You totally rocked Tracey's kit and I'm so glad she asked you to join us this month!! Hugs. :0)

Love all of your cards, Lindsey. They are all so cute and made with such care. I really like how those balloons pop against the patterned paper, and I wish I had thought to use the twine for their strings. Such a fun look. And, holographic washi (who even know there was such a marvelous thing?) is perfect with those fun pinwheels. I also wish I had thought to stencil right on that big birthday wishes die cut panel. Those polka dots are so very fun. Lastly, your heart and cupcake are just so darling. Such fun to be stamping with you one more time.

Greetings Lindsey! You have used Tracey's kit to perfection. Loving the simple cupcake taking center stage against the vellum heart. Also loved the Big Birthday Wishes stenciled in polka dots, so clever. Looking great on both cards. All so festive! So glad you joined us!

You've really made Tracey's kit shine with this wonderful array of cards! The balloons and pinwheels are fabulous pairings with the patterned papers. And holographic washi? That's a thing? I want some! Crushing over your dotted Big Birthday Wishes; I should have jazzed up my panel before using it. The vellum heart/cupcake combo: simply adorable!

You totally ROCKED this fun kit!! I love the bold word sentiment cards you created and how you used the pattern paper. I think my favorite, though is the aqua one with the vellum heart and cup cake. Simply divine!
