The Sisterhood is Quirky

Q is for Quirky is our newest challenge at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers! I would never have guessed that Edna could pull off quirky the way she has for our challenge badge. I did my best to go quirky myself:

I think this is the quirkiest of the crazy birds, with the bonus that I hadn't played with any of them for a long time! And this is definitely among the quirkiest of Shakespeare quotes. :D My bird is watercoloured, die cut and grounded with a little patch of grass.

Wait until you see the quirkiness that awaits you on the Snarky blog, from my sisters and our current Queen of Snark, Beverly! Feel the quirk and join us!

Supplies: Fabriano cream & Bazzill green textured cardstock, Canson watercolour paper, Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bird Crazy stamp & die, Versafine onyx black & MFT extreme black ink, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, Zig markers, MFT grass & Sugar Pea Designs cardfront element builder dies

Inkspirational: Shaped Cards

Happy weekend! We are introducing a new challenge category today at Inkspirational: technique challenges! And we are starting off with a fun one, SHAPED cards. Of course all cards have to have a shape, but we're looking outside the traditional rectangles or squares. Mine is takeout coffee shaped!

I got the idea and basic measurements for this from a tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers. There's a local coffee shop where I live that uses bright green lids, so that inspired my colour choices. I could have used one of my saved coffee sleeves (yes, I have a few) but embossed some kraft cardstock instead.

On the Ink blog, you'll find cards of all shapes and sizes! ;) Hope we've inspired you to join us.

Supplies: Neenah white & desert storm & scrap green cardstock, Lawn Fawn My Cup of Tea & STAMPlorations Literary Caffeine-ations stamps, Versamark, Versafine onyx black, Memento London fog & Catherine Pooler garden party inks, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, Sizzix/Tim Holtz Pinwheel embossing folder, MFT double stitched rectangle die

Seize the Birthday: Dichromatic

Welcome to a new Seize the Birthday challenge! Our newest (always optional) topping is DICHROMATIC. Or, in other words, make a two-colour card. We have one other stipulation if you choose to go with the theme - no metallics. Neutrals are allowed. I looked through a few stamp sets, and found one that lent itself to two colours:

As you can see, I was also influenced by the stamp packaging and used the same two colours, pink and green. The floral branch is stamped and clear embossed on watercolour cardstock. I used two shades of pink for the flowers and one green for the stem and leaves. I really like the font of the sentiments in this set too, but there's no birthday one, so I used one from another set instead. I also added a few watercolour splatters and a trio of black Nuvo drops.

Beautiful cards in an assortment of colour pairings from my StB teammates and our current surprise party guest, Vicky! I hope you will be inspired to join us.

Supplies: Hero Arts green layering cardstock, Canson watercolour paper, Taylored Expressions Bursting Blooms & Clearly Besotted Say What stamps, Versafine onyx black ink, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, Zig markers, Winnie & Walter Katharine Cutaways pierced rectangle die, black Nuvo Drops

Color Hues: Navy and Pink

More than halfway through February, so it is time for a new Color Hues challenge! My teammate Kristie has selected a pretty pairing: NAVY and PINK. It just so happens that another teammate, Carol, had shared some beautiful navy and pink ATCs with me, so I put one to work:

More pink than I'd normally use, but I do like the way this turned out. I found both pink and navy cardstock that would go with the colours in the ATC. I ran the pink through a never-before-used embossing folder to add texture and interest. Both the ATC and the pink panel were matted with navy before being added to a white card base. This card could be for just about any occasion, but I decided this scripty "thanks" would go well.

Lots of beautiful navy and pink inspiration from my teammates and our current guest designer, Rosemary - I hope you'll visit and then play along!

Supplies: Neenah white, Memory box navy & (?) pink cardstock, (?) thanks stamp, Versamark ink, Hero Arts white satin pearl embossing powder, STAMPlorations Blue Blooms ATC ephemera, Crafter's Companion regency swirls embossing folder

Addicted to Stamps and More: Birthdays

It's time to make some birthday cards at Addicted to Stamps and More! I hadn't had a chance to use a background stamp gifted to me by my friend Glenda, so out it came:

I wanted an undersea look, so after embossing the jellyfish in white on watercolour paper, I added blue and purple watercolour powders, trying to add the purple where it would highlight a few of the jellyfish. The blue powder I used has a shimmer that didn't want to appear in my pics. Once the panel was dry, I die cut it and wrapped my torn-vellum sentiment around the edges to avoid any pesky adhesive showing through. I mounted the panel on a purple mat and added everything to the card base.

Beautiful birthday cards made by my ATSM teammates can be found on the blog - take a look and then I hope you'll join us!

Supplies: Neenah white & Memory Box purple cardstock, Canson watercolour paper, vellum, Hero Arts Jellyfish Party & Poppystamps Whittle Sealife Sentiments stamps, Versamark & Versafine onyx black inks, Wow clear gloss & opaque white embossing powder, Cosmo Cricket pool pixie paint, Magenta Nuance violet watercolour powder, MFT wonky stitched rectangle die

A Tiny Craft: NBUS

After a January break, the design team is back to creating at A Tiny Craft! This month, we are looking for you to create an artist trading card or coin with some NBUS on it. And what's NBUS? Coined by card queen Darnell, it stands for "never before used schtuff". Whether old or new, if you have stamps, dies, etc. that have yet to be put to use, we'd like to see them in action.
When I went looking, it didn't take long to find a stamp set that I've had for well over a year that is perfectly sized for ATCs:

Normally, I look to ATCs as a perfect way to use up leftover bits and pieces, but this time, it was a great excuse to finally ink up this cute little plant set from Studio Katia. I picked four of them to clear emboss on die cut note pages before watercolouring them. At least I used up some offcuts of patterned paper as backgrounds! Each one also got a bit of bling. A closer look at each one:

With my NBUS stamp use (and at Darnell's suggestion), I'm adding these to her February NBUS Challenge
If you have some goodies that haven't quite made it onto a project yet, I hope you'll give our challenge a try - and why not link up with Darnell's fun challenge, too!

The Sisterhood of Judgemental Stampers

Happy belated Saturday! Which is my way of saying - I'm a day late with my post for the brand new Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge, J is for Judgemental! Please don't judge me. ;) 2022 is shaping up to be just this kind of year for me, I think.  But enough of that, here's my card:

Funny, I'm not the only sister who thought a cat went well with the theme. And of course having some snarky cat stamps made the choice easy. He is watercoloured and fussy cut, then popped up on a panel that suggests why he might be judged. :D

If you haven't already, be sure to check out what my snarky sisters, and current guest and Queen of Snark Cathy, have made for the challenge. And then submit your own project to be judged! :D

Supplies: Neenah white & (?) dark orange cardstock, Canson watercolour paper, Stamptember/Tim Holtz Snarky Cats & MFT I Knead You stamps, Versafine, MFT extreme black & Memento canteloupe & Morocco ink, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, MFT blueprints 29 die, foam tape

Inkspirational: Photo Challenge

Happy February Saturday! February does of course bring with it Valentines Day, and if you need a little help with cards for that, Inkspiration has the perfect photo to help! I stayed very close to the source with my card:

These little roses are my favourite type of layering stamps - the kind where you can't be exact. :D I lightly traced a heart on my cardstock, then stamped along it with the outline rose stamp. Next, with my lighter ink shade, I used the fill-in stamp, first full strength, and then again on the next rose to get the lighter 2nd generation colour. From a different stamp set, I added a few little leaves here and there. The imprecise look of the flowers gave me permission not to be perfect with them, either. ;)  I picked up on the door from the photo by scoring the panel horizontally. I can't decide if it was a good idea to leave the centre area of the wreath unscored or not - but it felt like it might be above my pay grade the day I was making this. :D The sentiment is from yet another stamp set.
I've got pink, a heart and a romantic sentiment, so I am going to add this to the current Festive Friday challenge: St. Valentine's Day.

I love the different directions the Ink team went with their inspired cards - and I'm sure you will, too! I hope you will join us.

Supplies: Neenah white cardstock, Winnie & Walter In Bloom: Frenchy's Festive Florals & In Bloom: Hollie's Festive Florals & MFT Tropical Sensations stamps, Catherine Pooler do-si-do, polished & garden party ink, Studio Katia clear drop mix 2

It's a Wild 'n Whimsy Inspiration Hop at Scrap 'n Stamp!

It's the first Friday of February, and that means there's a brand new Scrap 'n Stamp Inspiration Hop! We're calling this month's Wild 'N Whimsy and featuring the stamp designs of Tracey Hey in association with Alpaca Pals! Since I, shockingly, didn't previously own any dinosaur stamps, I'm using the set You Rock

The sentiment is half the reason I wanted to make this card, I love it! I thought the sketchy nature of the artwork lent itself to watercolour, so that's what I did. His little red hearts are coloured with the same Catherine Pooler ink that I stamped the sentiment heart with. After die-cutting, I layered my watercolour panel over some patterned paper from my stash, and added both to a mini-slimline cardbase.

You will want to visit all the stops on the hop to see the amazing cuteness of this line of stamps! And if you comment on each stop along the way, you might just bring some of the cuteness back to your house, since we're giving away a Tracey Hey set for each stop on the hop! For even more fun, we have lots of guests playing along this month, so you have extra chances to win! Here's the hop list:

Before I forget - of course there's a sale, too! Click the graphic below to take you to the Tracey Hey selection:

Seize the Birthday: Sparkle and Shine

Happy Thursday! Seize the Birthday wants to bring some Sparkle and Shine to your day with our new challenge! My card adds shine with foil patterned paper, and sparkle with embossing powder:

Shine is never easy to photograph! And my laptop is in for service, so my photo editing is a bit curtailed as well. You can still see the gold shine from the patterned paper as well as the brushed gold mat. For the sentiment, I used black sparkle embossing powder.  I cut my layers with a new set of mini-slimline dies - thank you, Carol

Lots of sparkle and shine over on the STB blog, from my teammates and our current surprise party guest, Vicky! I hope you'll join us.

Supplies: Recollections black cardstock, My Mind's Eye On Trend 2 patterned paper, Studio Katia It's Your Birthday stamp, Versafine onyx black ink, Ranger black sparkle embossing powder, Photoplay stitched frames dies

Happy Little Stampers CAS: Inky

It's time for the Happy Little Stampers CAS challenge, and this month we've got a fun theme: Inky! Inky may seem like it lends itself to more complex projects, but you'll see from the HLS design team that a clean and simple card can also be inky. Here's mine:

It's a little layered, but still has an overall clean look, I think, and apart from the drying time, was quick and easy to make. I used pink, red, purple and silver alcohol inks on some mineral paper for my main panel - I decided to try mineral paper to see if it took heat better than Yupo paper does. It doesn't. :D While the inks dried, I die cut my heart from silver glitter paper and black cardstock. I also white-embossed the sentiment on black. Putting everything together, I have a dramatic-looking CAS valentine. With that in mind, I'm adding this card to the CASology Affection challenge and Simon Says Stamp's With Love challenge.

I hope you will get inky - but stay clean! ;) - and join us!

Supplies: Neenah white & Stampin' Up basic black cardstock, Yasutomo mineral paper, Concord & 9th Little Love Tags stamp, Versamark ink, Wow white embossing powder, senorita magenta, chili pepper, passion purple, pearl & silver Jacquard Piñata inks, Simon Says Stamp scribble heart & MFT blueprints 24 dies

Addicted to Stamps and More: Christmas

After taking a short break (thanks, Kylie!) I'm back in time for Christmas in February at Addicted to Stamps and More! Often I use this time of year (when I actually have the time) for more intricate Christmas cards, but for today, kept it simple but I think cute:

A card like this will certainly be easy to put together come December crunch time if I find myself running short! I think these little holiday mugs are adorable. I chose to use the snowman one, backed him with a kraft panel die cut for some extra interest, then mounted on a white card base. I also had a bunch of these simple sentiments already stamped and embossed, so I simply needed to cut and add one.
I'm adding this to one of the newer card challenges on the crafty block: Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge! (Hearts on the mug - small but there!)

I always advocate year-round Christmas card making, so I hope you'll consider joining us! Lots more inspiration to be found on the ATSM blog.

Color Hues: Red and Black

A new month means a new challenge at Color Hues, and I think it's a great one: RED and BLACK! While pondering a few Valentine ideas, I remembered I had a buffalo check background already stamped, and my card became a Christmas one:

With the check already done, the rest of the card came together quickly: two deer die cuts adhered together, and a little banner sentiment. I was going to keep to entirely red and black, but decided on the pop of white embossing at the last minute.
I'm adding this to Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Anything Goes challenge.

Beautiful cards from my Color Hues teammates and our current guest designer, Michal, so I hope you will check them out and then join us!
