Junk!

Like many crafters, our Edna does manage to collect a lot of STUFF. And that leads us to the brand new Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge, J is for JUNK! To be more specific, we are asking you to recycle/upcycle some otherwise non-craft item and incorporate it into your card or other project. 

I have a basket in my craft stash where I keep items I have found and think might come in handy someday for making a card. We all do, right? No? Anyway, I sorted through my take-out coffee bands, pieces of greeting cards, and what have you until I came across a piece of decorative tissue paper I really have had for years. I kept it thinking it could make a lovely vintage-style card, but hey, we are the snarky stampers after all... 

I started by spotlighting the wine glass with a little Copic marker colour. As it says to do in all the tissue tutorials, I then crumpled it up, smoothed it out a bit and adhered it to some white cardstock. (I often think that half the techniques we stampers think are so terrific just leave the civilians scratching their heads. In this case, wrinkled paper, really? :D) From there it was a quick task to add a black mat (also recycled! It comes from some junk mail that just happened to come on lovely matte black stock), stamp and emboss an appropriate sentiment on the card base, and put it all together. I also added a little gloss to the wine glass to make it pop more.

Seize the Striped Birthday

Hooray, it's another Seize the Birthday Thursday! Our optional topping for this latest challenge is STRIPES. We are happy to see any birthday card in our link-up, but perhaps using stripes will give you an extra boost of inspiration! 

As I was considering how I wanted to use stripes, a nautical theme popped into my head - and, as I discovered, into my teammate Sandy's brain, as well. Here's my version:

I have two nautical stamp sets, and for this card, the one from Neat & Tangled won out. The sailboat is stamped, embossed and watercoloured. The sentiment and anchor are also heat-embossed, this time on vellum, to go with the *canvas* in the frame. The vellum allows the sailboat to pop a little more against the striped panel. Although it is not a birthday-specific sentiment, I will definitely have this in my stash as a masculine birthday card. Especially since I've already added a birthday sentiment to the inside. ;)

Colour Me Snarky?

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone survived Friday the 13th. Edna does look a little pale, but that is because she is promoting our newest Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge, C is for Colouring! (Also known as coloring...) Pencils, markers, paints, if you can colour it, we want to see your creation! Here is mine: 

I recently treated myself to the matching dies for two of my hipster stamps, so wanted to play! The dies cut him in his entirety, just his face, and his glasses and tie. I watercoloured him, cut his tie from patterned paper, and his glasses from some matte black cardstock. I highlighted him with a black cardstock circle, and added a little burlap stamping in the background to go with his... goatiness.

Seize the Sequinned Birthday

It's time for another Seize the Birthday Thursday! We had a terrific turnout for our last Anything Goes challenge. 

This week our optional topping is SEQUINS! You don't have to put sequins on your birthday card to enter, but they can add a fun bit of bling to a card. Here's mine: 

This card is inspired by our challenge leader, Nancy! A few days ago for The Daily Marker 30 Day colouring challenge, Nancy posted this card, which reminded me of this stamp that I chose to use. I watercoloured the roses and leaves with Zig markers, then used a pale blue watercolour pencil to outline the image. The blue panel is stamped with a rose background stamp in a shimmery blue ink, which I also used for the sentiment. 

This just happens to be red, white and blue! (with a small helping of green...) So I'm entering this in the Monday AND Wednesday Simon Says Stamp challenges, Red, White, and/or Blue.
