Happy Canada Day! 🍁 I thought I'd celebrate by... showing you some Christmas cards? It just so happens this is also the first Wednesday of July, and so begins a new ABC Christmas Challenge! The second half of this most unusual year brings us to the letters N and O.
First up is N for NO FUSS. To me, that must mean Clean and Simple. Here's mine:
I thought one great big sentiment would be a great way to fill the card and keep everything fuss-free. To keep things interesting, I grabbed my Kaleidacolor ink pad to get this fun gradient of colour. Once I stamped it, I realized that if you squinted, it is almost tree-shaped, so I added the branches at the bottom (the green is also part of the Kaleidacolor pad) and a star at the top. It didn't seem like much fuss to add a few smaller sequins here and there as ornaments for the tree. I love that Stampin' Up's rich razzleberry cardstock works so well with the ink pad colours.
In a nicely orchestrated contrast, next we have O is for OVER THE TOP. I wasn't exactly sure what *we* meant by that, so I tried to cover at least two meanings with my card:
I tried to be over the top in how I made my card, so I used six different distress inks in making my night sky before adding the glittery stencilled stars. After I did those, I realized I might have messed myself up for stamping, but I was able to sneak in both my Santa with sleigh and the sentiment. To be over the top, they are both double stamped and embossed - thank you MISTI for that ability! Notice that I also have Santa flying over the top of my tiny house in the forest, die cut from super sparkly white glitter paper.
Supplies: (joy, warmth and love) Neenah white & Stampin' Up textured rich razzleberry cardstock, Neat & Tangled Wishing You Love stamps, Kaleidacolor Royal Satin ink, Little Things from Lucy's Cards sequins; (joy) Neenah white, Concord & 9th pearl glitter & scrap yellow cardstock, CTMH navy patterned paper, Sunny Studio Stamps Here Comes Santa & Clearly Besotted sentiment stamp, Versafine onyx black & milled lavender, wilted violet, mermaid lagoon, blueprint sketch, faded jeans & chipped sapphire distress inks, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, Heffy Doodle Starfall stencil, Nuvo moonstone glimmer paste, CUTplorations stitched winter landscape die
Not having much luck in keeping up with the ABCs of Christmas challenge these days, hope I can squeeze time, I think I could do something like yours for No Fuss. as you know don't do CAS well. Your cards are fabulous, love the way you inked the sentiment on the first and of course santa and sleigh are great. Thanks for the inpiration.
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day!!! Another reason why Canada is more great than....(your southern neighbor) Love both of these cards, and the reminder that we are half way there. I think you have just inspired me to play along. Thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteFab cards - love the colours on the first one, and your take on the 'Over the Top' theme is genius!

ReplyDeleteLove both of these cards but the colours of that first one are so rich and gorgeous! Nothing else is needed on that card...it's absolutely perfect! Happy belated Canada day from a fellow Canadian far from home!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pair of cards, Lindsey! I love the clean simplicity of the first cad which looks very classy and the sight of Santa flying against the beautiful starry sky certainly hits the spot of an over the top card for me!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good Canada day.
Stay safe.
