Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday: Make a Sunset Scene! I think I managed the sunset part, although my "scene" is rather minimalist. :D Luckily, we always welcome all birthday cards at Seize the Birthday... even mine. ;)
I enjoy making little scenes on my cards, but the day I made this, I just wasn't feeling it. This die from Simon Says Stamp is a great one for using a gradient of colours in the background, so that's what I decided to go with. When I tried making my first sunset background with distress oxides... ugh. So I grabbed another panel, and just used the ink left on my brushes - so much better! I die cut the cattail triptych on linen cardstock for a little extra interest, then stamped the sentiment in dark orange. I may have managed a small smudge on the panel in the cardmaking process, so... embellishments!
As always, beautiful sunset examples from my teammates and our current surprise party guest, Carol! Pop over to the StB blog and be inspired!
Supplies: Neenah white & linen cardstock, Clearly Besotted Sweet Little Sentiments stamp, Catherine Pooler mandarin spice & fossilized amber, wild honey & faded jeans distress oxide ink, Simon Says Stamp cattail triptych die, Studio Katia clear bubbles
Lovely card! Yes, that sunset bit has got me foiled right now, but I LOVE your interpretation. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you struggled with this (I had trouble with yours for the 25th *wink)But with that being said, I think you did an amazing job of adding the background sky to your cattails (and I love that die) ~this would make wonderful masculine cards...even sympathy as well as the birthday of course!! Thank you for providing this as another means of interpreting the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a perfect soft sunset. Love that die and of course your perfectly CAS creation. great use of embellies, I always say no mistakes only a reason to embellish.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great die - perfect with the sunset
ReplyDeleteYour ink blending looks really good! I'm currently trying to do some also, and I suck at it. LOL! I love that die cut. Such a pretty card!
ReplyDeleteI love your approach to this challenge of a sunset scene. Very unique and gorgeous. I am fond of CAS cards and this is a great one.
ReplyDeleteI love the direction you took for our topping. It is clear to me that just beyond those cattails, you will find a gorgeous beach and a beautiful sunset! Cattails remind me of my childhood in Ohio. Awesome card, Lindsey!
ReplyDeleteYour cattails and sunsets trio make for a lovely birthday card! Sometimes smudges are 'meant to be'; your droplets make for a pretty design innovation!
