Color Hues: Blue and Brown

Happy June! It's time for the first Color Hues challenge of the month. Nancy has picked the combo blue and brown. While I don't want to get kicked off the team, this may just be my very least favourite colour pairing! When I was very small, we had this stack of blue and brown Christmas wrapping paper. I hated it! My thoughts obviously haven't changed much. :D
Needs must, however, so here's my card:

After a first failed attempt, I decided to go with an embossing paste resist. I've had this stencil forever, and finally put it to use! I masked part of it off and added white embossing glaze. Once it dried, I blended tumbled glass, broken china and mermaid lagoon distress inks on the panel. I wasn't thrilled with my blending, so misted it with some sparkle mist. Just for good measure, I spattered a little blue shimmer mist on, as well. I really wanted to add some scripty background stamping to the panel next - how is it I don't have any scripty backgrounds? Instead, I used a music stamp, inking part and adding to two corners. The sentiment is stamped and embossed. After trimming the panel, I rounded the corners and adhered it to the brown card base.
Both my sentiment and my music stamps are at least five years old (not to mention the stencil!), so I'm adding my card to the current Anything Goes Retro Rubber Challenge

Don't mind me - I know a lot of people really like blue and brown together! And the cards my teammates and our guest designer Michal have made _almost_ convinced me it's not so bad! :D Grab your blues and your browns and join us!

Supplies: Neenah white & PTI smoky shadow cardstock, Unity Bevy of Butterflies & Local King Rubber Stamp Notes stamps, Memento cocoa bean, Memento Luxe espresso truffle & tumbled glass, broken china & mermaid lagoon distress ink, Wow clear gloss embossing powder, Tsukineko clear shimmer sparkle mist, sea kiss Smooch spritz,  Crafter's Workshop Mini Butterfly Meadow stencil, Picket Fence snowdrop white embossing glaze, Creative Memories corner-rounding punch

  1. I know what you mean Lindsay about some colour combos but you overcame your reticence and created a fab design none the less. :)

  2. I never could have guessed that blue and brown weren't a favorite. Something I felt too, glad to say you rose to the challenge beautifully! Your inked background and the silhouette images are a beautiful pairing!

  3. Whatchu talkin ‘bout Willis? Blue and brown are way better than any shade of purple. 😂😂😂 Your card is lovely and I never would have guessed your distaste. That’s a true professional. ❤️❤️❤️

  6. It is funny how one color combination appeals and another doesn't. You came up with a gorgeous card, nonetheless! Love the embossed background!

  7. Such a fabulous card. I love the texture. I actually like blue and brown together, but am struggling to think of anything but chocolate at the moment.

  8. You're Fired! LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Not a chance sista! Despite your resistance to my color combo, you did a great job! The embossing paste and musical notes made for a great backdrop. I am going to have to find out what other color combos you despise and use them when my time comes up again to host. LOL

  9. I can totally relate to your struggle, some color combinations just don't "speak" to me creatively... But, your card is beautiful anyway, so I wouldn't have guessed your struggle if you hadn't mentioned it! :)

  10. I like making silhouette cards, I don't have many images like that but, I always see them inked in black.
Your card, with the stenciled images in white is a very effective way to do this silhouette.
    Beautifully done.
Thank you for sharing with us at RETRO RUBBER.
    Stay healthy and safe.

  11. For not liking the combo (yes, I struggled too), you've certainly made a lovely card! While the 'whole' is delightful, it's the dragonflies and butterfly that make me smile!
