It's the first Wednesday of April, and that means it's time for a new ABC Christmas Challenge! Working our way through the alphabet, we have come to H is for Homes/Houses and I is for Icicles. For the first time since I joined the team, I only made a card for one of the prompts. :( Well strictly speaking, I made a second card, but it went directly into the recycling bin. Here, at least, is my card for H for homes/houses:
Gingerbread houses! I die cut two kraft houses, and two white houses, so I could use the white for the icing parts. I added some extra browning to the gingerbread with a little distress ink. The gumdrops for the roofs are coloured with Copics, then brushed with sparkle mist for their sugar frosting. The sky background is lightly blended with tumbled glass distress ink.
You can see a little bit of the gumdrop sparkle in this close-up:
I have never used this Paper Smooches die set before, and I don't think its original owner had, either! (I love hand-me-downs. :D) So off this card goes to Darnell's April NBUS challenge. (Challenge #25 already; congrats, Darnell!)
Lots of great inspiration on offer from my ABC teammates - including some successful icicle cards! ;) April is a great time to make holiday cards to avoid that last-minute stress in December, so I hope you will join us!
Supplies: Neenah white & desert storm cardstock, Studio Katia Holiday Village stamp, Stampin' Up real red & tumbled glass & gathered twigs distress ink, Copic markers, Paper Smooches gingerbread house & Sugar Pea Designs card front element builder dies, Tsukineko clear shimmer sparkle mist
Those gingerbread houses look good enough to eat with the sugar glazed gumdrop roof, Lindsey. Love how you added the stitching around the snowbank to match the frame - it's those little details that are so special in your cards.
ReplyDeleteHope you are well

Wow! Those house and gumdrops look so real. Awesome card!
ReplyDeleteGumdrop roofs! Man, now you have my mouth watering for some, Lindsey. I love the way the sugar melts away and then it takes forever to finish one because you don't dare chew it unless you want it in the nether regions of your teeth. It's like glitter in that way! I love the whole design with the whimsical little houses in the snow. Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS and for the special shoutout! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteWonderful H card for the challenge this month, what went wrong with your I card, Lindsey? Hope you have a great week.

What a great couple of houses - clean and colourful. xx
ReplyDeleteThese are so fun Lindsey, and I should be jumping on the bandwagon so I am not caught at Christmas making a million cards at the last minute! Love these!
ReplyDeleteHow cute are these? I've never seen that PS die. How fun to see it in action. Love it.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are these gingerbread houses! I want to live in one, which I'm sure comes with a fireplace, book shelves and a cozy, organized craft room! We could be neighbours in this wee neighbourhood!
