Happy pandemic Thursday! Can't avoid all the changes it's brought, so might as well make the best of it... and here we are at Seize the Birthday with a new challenge to inspire you! Our newest challenge is to use a non-neutral card base. But if your coloured cardstock supplies are running low, we are always happy to accept any birthday card in our gallery.
When I started making my card, I picked my card base, made a background... and then got stuck. I quickly realized my usual way is to design my card first, then if it works, pick a coordinating card base. So I picked a stamp set to use, and came up with this:
I made a card with a dog on it last week :D, so decided to work with this cute Lawn Fawn cat set. I stamped, embossed, and coloured a number of the images in the set, then played around until I got this mini-scene. On the white panel, I blended just a bit of grey ink to ground the images. I don't often reach for teal, but with the can-cake I coloured, this seemed to work perfectly.
With one of the leftover images (and a second can), I made another card:
This time I went with a blue can so I could use a blue card base.
And then OF COURSE I had to go back to my original attempt and see if I could come up with something...
I cut my stencilled background into a fishtail banner, coloured up another cat, and split the sentiment into two smaller parts. I hadn't wanted to use any bling on the first two cards (apart for a little Glossy Accents on the candle flames and a bit of sparkle on the fish), but this time I added Stickles to the kitty collar and a few star sequins to the banner.
Of course if cats aren't your thing, we have a wide variety of cards on the Seize the Birthday blog to inspire you, from the usual party-goers and our surprise party guest, Jen! Make a birthday card and join the fun!

ReplyDeletewow, you did a Three=fer! I love the images and your designs and using different colored cardstock...you sure rocked this challenge!
ReplyDeleteNice three-fering, Lindsey! What a gorgeous selection. I now want that set with the candle in a tin of cat food very, very much! Jo x
ReplyDeleteThree absolutely adorable trio of kitty cards, and now you have three birthday cards in your stash. I love teal and blue and plum?
ReplyDeleteYou are an overachiever and I love these. That cat has a smirk on his face I am sure that he is proud of himself for putting that candle in the can of cat food. Tee hee! Love that. Then you continue to make more cute cards. All simply artistic and so cute.
ReplyDeleteLook at you with a Threefer! You have been talking to Carol over at JUGS she does this a lot. I just adore the way you have personalized the cat in the first card with his patches of color. Gives him character that is for sure. However, each card is really fabulous! Great work my dear!
ReplyDeleteSo cute what a fabulous set of CAS Cards

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trio of cards showcasing a colorful card base on each one! Love the Teal colored base with that cutely colored kitty and the tiger cat is adorable in the 2nd card too. Loving the deep rose color on the 3rd with a fun sentiment! Great ideas and fun cards!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun three-fur! (Couldn't help myself sorry!) Love the sweet kitties with their can cakes, The coloured bases really set these images off, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteHow did you manage to make three of them!?! Adorable cards, Lindsey! The colors you've matched are just perfect - I have to be frank - with the first card, I felt that the cardstock color was just right, but somehow I couldn't make out why until I read your reasoning - and then it clicked for the other cards as well. Really, love them all!
ReplyDeleteWell, having been stuck, you’re on a roll! Colour-coordinating the can-cakes with the backgrounds gives the cards such cohesion, Cats aren’t really my thing, but I love these kitties, especially the one on the pink card 😍
ReplyDeleteThese are all so freakin' cute! You picked some beautiful rich card bases. Love the layouts and I especially love the scene on the first one.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the darling little kitty cards. I have to say the teal is my fave only because it's my favorite color.
