Check out our new look at Seize the Birthday for this brand new year! Big thanks to design team member Ashwini Rao for supplying our new badges and banners.
Ashwini also picked our first "topping" for the year, and it is a tough one for me... LAYER IT! Of course, as always, we accept any newly crafted birthday card in our gallery, but as a team member, I really should use the optional challenge theme. And there are lots of options: I could have used layering stamps or layered die cuts... but instead I went a more challenging route and ended up with this:
I have a not-so-secret affection for Graphic 45 papers, even though they are so out of my crafting wheelhouse. They do not exactly lend themselves to clean and simple cards. :D Still, once or twice a year, they call to me to come play with them, and a layered card is a perfect excuse. Most of the elements are from an 8x8 pad called Vintage Hollywood, with the tickets and countdown frames from their Curtain Call collection. As usual with G45 papers, I couldn't fit what I wanted on a regular 4¼ by 5½ card front, so this one is 6½ by 4¾. (How did I pick my size? By looking through my stash of random envelopes, of course. :D) For the backing panel, I sponged Versamark through a star stencil, added a freehand border with a Versamarker, then brushed on some Perfect Pearls.
There's no obvious birthday sentiment, but I thought "Born to be a Star", popped up a little with some fun foam, combined with the less obvious "VINTAGE Hollywood", definitely suggested a birthday card. Even "On with the Show" works!
Here's a close-up of the layered collage:

Love the new badges - very arty. Great job with the layering, I'd be lying in a heap after attempting anything like that, but you did it perfectly, Jo x
ReplyDeleteGreat background for all those star studded papers. You did a great job layering them.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
Wow! I love this card and I too have a fondness for Graphic 45 papers. You don't see them often on my cards as I have the same likeness for collecting papers and not using them. Glad that you thought of away. I had to laugh at how you picked your size, my secret too. I love how you made this one a birthday card. Oh and I enjoyed your month of tags.
ReplyDeleteThis is just fantabulous!! I love all the little tags of hollywood, and then its all paired with gold and black, making everything just sparkly! So, this is what happens when you take a little trip off your regular road! Totally love it!
ReplyDeleteKiller images for layering! Love this
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous layered card. I can see it is out of the CAS section, but you did a fantastic job with 'vintage layered'...if it is not already a thing, you have made it so!
ReplyDeletePretty new banner/badges; love the balloons tucked into the background and the font...swoon! Speaking of swooning: your collage card! Oh my 'stars'...artsy awesome in every way! Is that a photo of Cary Grant to the left? Very handsome and dare I say, distracting (in a good way *grin*). Layered loveliness, my friend!

What a wonderful way to use those gorgeous papers! Amazing layered card, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your post, Lindsey! Thanks for putting a smile on my face. This was a perfect time to pull out the paper you love! Your card is awesome! Love the write up on your blog and how you used the graphics. Thanks for challenging me to do better!
ReplyDeleteIt's a fabulous and artistic collage, Lindsey! Perfect for the topping! I've never heard about G45 papers. The vintage style is very interesting!
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it my friend! I have such a hard time with collage cards but you did so well. This is such fun paper. I love that you picked it based on a random envelope size - I should do the same as I have so many random envelope sizes (due to my addiction to my envelope punch board.
ReplyDeleteFabulous result with your layering/collage, Lindsey! It’s reminded me I have some handmade paper somewhere with collaged film poster images - I wonder where it is? 🤣
