I have come to realize I rarely do sketch challenges. Come to think of it, I have trouble getting challenges done on time at all, but sketch challenges seem the toughest for me. But when I saw the new sketch challenge at STAMPlorations, it seemed to work perfectly with my recent realization that it would be not a bad idea to have a few sympathy cards tucked away for when they are needed. Here's the sketch and my take:
I tend to keep things clean and simple for sympathy cards, and this sketch seemed made for that. I started with masking a circle and sponging with distress inks. I stamped and embossed the pussy willow, then realized the open spaces let the colours show through. Luckily with distress inks, they react with water even after they've dried, so I was able to add water and mop up the ink with a tissue.
So I suppose one card does not a stash make, but it's a start...
Supplies: Stampin' Up bashful blue cardstock, Strathmore mixed media paper, Sunshine Designs Pussy Willow & Unity Bevy of Butterflies stamps, Memento Luxe espresso truffle, milled lavender, broken china & faded jeans distress inks, Zing clear embossing powder, dimensionals
This might be the perfect sympathy card. I also might love a good sketch. :) I use them to jump-start my mojo, which still seems to be on extended vacation.
ReplyDeleteWow this is clean and simple perfection. The sentiment that you're trying to get a crossed with this card has definitely been made. Tailored to perfection!
ReplyDeleteWhoops I forgot to say thanks for linking up to the STAMPlorations sketch challenge!
ReplyDeleteStunning card! Jo x
ReplyDeleteNow who's the queen of CAS? This is beautiful. I love everything about this card. I would CASE it if I had that stamp, which I love BTW. Those pussy willows would look fab with my fuzzy white stuff (my "I-don't-know-what-it-is-but-I-use-it-anyway" stuff). Makes me almost want to get sick so you can send me a "thinking of you card." Almost.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful design.

Oh Lindsey, this is absolutely freaking stunning! So soft & lovely.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the comments above; this is perfect. So. Very. Elegant.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous sympathy card, your sponging is pretty and the colors are pure and soft. Thank you for sharing at STAMPlorations.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shading in the circle. Thanks for playing at STAMPlorations:)
ReplyDeleteI had to come back to here to catch up with you, Lindsey. I have to say that you are really excellent at literal interpretations of the sketch challenges that you enter! I'm surprised you don't win them all! And I really loved your wine bottle design with the sweet pp and the cork popping out!! Enjoy your day!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Definitely will case this one. Thanks
