Flying Birthday

I am so pleased with the way this card turned out! It's one of those rare times when how I pictured it my head totally worked. It started when I found this awesome Echo Park paper when I was in London a few weeks ago. You see, my brother bought a plane last year, then learned how to fly. His birthday is next month, so I thought this paper would be the perfect starting point for his card. Then my friend Emily pointed me in the direction of this cute DigiSparkle airplane digi. I wanted it to fly in the opposite direction, though, so I flipped it. (One of the handy things about digital images!) That meant losing the banner, however. I decided this Inkadinkado sentiment could work as a banner. I printed the plane on white, then on red twice, so I could piece the plane itself, then add a little extra dimension by layering the bumper and tail sections. (Please feel free to add the proper technical terms in your head.) The propellor, struts (?) and wheel are pieced with silver pearl paper. The pilot is coloured with watercolour pencils. The sentiment is embossed for some shine and dimension, too. I loved how well the Caribbean twine matched the paper! The plane and the banner are popped up on dimensionals.
I think the colours in this card are close enough (although there are a few extra colours in there...) to qualify for the current Embellish Magazine Masculine Color Trends Challenge. More important than that, though... I hope my brother likes it!

Supplies: white & red cardstock, Echo Park Little Boy: In the Clouds patterned paper, silver pearl paper, DigiSparkle airplane, Inkadinkado sentiment, Memories passion red ink, clear embossing powder, Twinery Caribbean twine, black half-pearl, dimensionals Pin It Now!

Neeeoooowwww!!! (That's the sound of a flying airplane! LOL) I love this! How absolutely adorable. It's nice to see you making a card that is not A2 sized. ;) I'm sure your brother is going to love it!

Oh so love that paper! And I think it's the perfect card. ;)
BTW, meeting after this cold has finally subsided is the best bet...since I can't seem to shake it I don't think it's fair to share outside the education circle. :D Lots and LOTS to chat about. ;)

Love it! The stamp-as-banner, the pieced-up plane, and that cute dp are all delightful!

If, for any crazy reason, your brother doesn't appreciate this card enough, you have my permission to dope-slap at will!!

PS: it's hilarious that he got a plane and THEN learned to fly! My dad once bought a sailboat and THEN learned to sail...must be a dude thing :)

Ooooh this is just AWESOME, Linds! I love the paper and that plane is just fantastic--the dimension you added looks really good!! And I totally thought that sentiment was the "official" banner for this plane! I bet your brother is going to love it!

How cute is this and a great card for the challenge. I find it hard to do masculine cards, but you did a super job!

The cuteness is so great!!! How could your brother not love it. And I am so in awe that it's a digi stamp. I am so terrified of digi. eek. Thank you so much for playing along in the Embellish Challenge.

p.s....Emily's airplane sound totally made me giggle.
